Councillor Maureen Child who represents Craigentinny and Portobello gives us her weekly rundown of events that are taking place in and around Portobello in the next week.

The Portobello Market returns on June 6 in Brighton Park, and Dr Bike will be there to give free bike checks, thanks to BG Cycles.  The Caleerie Buskers will also return to provide a little entertainment as the day goes on. There’s more than 20 traders this month including the arrival of an all-new producer. There’s everything from sweet & savoury to garden & crafts The market opens at 9.30am and runs until 1.30pm. Tables and chairs are set out for you to sit a while and enjoy the atmosphere. Portobello Market runs in Brighton Park, just off Brighton Place, Portobello, on the first Saturday of every month except January. Art Walk Porty is a new arts event to be held 3-6 September 2015, being organised by local artist and designer, Rosy Naylor, that celebrates the public space and creative activity of Portobello, to include site specific installations, artist open studios, and a makers market. Portobello Amenity Society (PAS) Annual General Meeting is at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 4 June in the Baptist Church Hall 185, Portobello High Street.  The Speaker is Tom Parnell of the Forth & Borders Cases Panel Convenor Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland and he will give an illustrated talk on “The Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland: Casework Challenges.”  Everyone is welcome to attend.
