New Curator of Engagement takes up post at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is delighted to announce that Mairi Lafferty has been appointed to the role of The Daskalopoulos Curator of Engagement, and took up the post on 4 March 2015, for an initial three-year period. The post, which has been created and funded through the D.Daskalopoulos Collection, is a new role conceived to develop, extend and deepen public engagement with the Gallery’s ambitious public programme.
Based in the curatorial department at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Mairi Lafferty will work with colleagues from departments across the National Galleries of Scotland to lead on the conception, management and implementation of a programme of interpretation and engagement around the public programme. In particular she will work closely with the Education Department to create interpretive resources aimed at specific audiences; support curatorial colleagues to develop interpretative content and resources that meets the needs of visitors; and support the digitisation of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art collection.
Mairi holds a Masters of Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art and a first class honours degree in Fine Art, specialising in sculpture, from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee. Most recently, Mairi has been working as Digital Coordinator for GENERATION, on secondment from her role as Publishing Assistant in the NGS publishing department. In 2012, Mairi worked as Collections Research Assistant for the Demarco Archive Trust, and prior to that had been Cataloguing Assistant for the Demarco Archive at SNGMA. In 2009, she was an Artist in Residence as part of the Scottish Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
