Hibs’ Ladies ready for new season

Hibernian Ladies concluded their pre season preparations ahead of Sunday’s opening game against Hamilton with a 0-0 draw against Sunderland from the FA Women’s Super League.

After the game, Manager Chris Roberts told the club website : “We knew Sunderland would be a tough game and so it turned out. They had a few full internationalists in their side whilst we were missing a few of our girls, however it was still a pleasing run-out. Sunderland probably had one really good opportunity whilst we had quite a few half chances.  We could’ve won it but a draw was probably the fairest outcome.”

Sunday’s game was the girls’ fourth of the close season following a closed door match with Heart of Midlothian, a 5-0 victory over Spartans and a narrow 1-0 defeat against Aberdeen.

Roberts moved to secured the signatures of former Celtic quartet Heather Richards, Chloe Arthur, Emma Brownlie and Abilgail Harrison to bolster his squad at the turn of the year and he admits they have all settled in very well.

He continued: “The [new] girls have all settled in great which I think is down to them knowing so many of our squad from the national set-up.

“We are as much of a good fit for them as they are for us and to be honest they don’t really feel like new signings as they have slotted in so well.”

“We have a few injuries to contend with and the Hamilton match may be too soon for those girls.

“That said, we have a decent sized squad this season and excellent competition for places so I have complete faith that no matter who plays we can get the job done.

“Our targets for this season are simple; we want to improve on last term and challenge for every competition we enter.”

Hibs match against Hamilton at Albyn Park, Broxburn on Sunday gets underway at 2pm so come along and cheer on the girls.  Admission prices are Adults £5 and Concessions £2.
