Appeal over severely emaciated dog
The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog less than half her ideal weight was taken to an Edinburgh vets.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted when the severely emaciated female terrier crossbreed was taken to the city’s PDSA on Tuesday (4 November).
Sadly, the vet had no option but to put the light brown coloured dog to sleep to end her suffering.
Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, “The young woman who took the dog to the vets said she had bought her over the internet a couple of days earlier.
“Frustratingly, she has been unable to tell us who she got her from.
“When the dog collapsed she took her to the PDSA where she was weighed as being just 4.2kg, when she should have been 11kg to 12kg.
“We are appealing to the public for help in tracing the previous owner of this tragic dog.
“She had been caused a great deal of suffering and we need to establish how she came to be in such horrendous condition.”
Anyone with information is being urged to call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
