Witness appeal following serious assault in West Pilton

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in the West Pilton area of the city.

The incident happened around 9.35pm yesterday (Wednesday) in West Pilton Park, near to the junction with West Pilton Grove.

A 37-year-old Chinese man sustained numerous injuries, including stab wounds, after being attacked by three men.

Detectives are treating the assault as a hate crime and have currently detained one male in connection with this investigation.

Positive lines of enquiry are being followed to identify the other men involved. In the meantime, police are asking members of the public with any information on the incident to come forward immediately.

Superintendent Liz McAinsh said: “This was a horrific assault, which left the victim in need of medical treatment and he remains in hospital in a serious condition.

“Hate crime is completely unacceptable and Police Scotland will relentlessly pursue those responsible. I would like to reassure the public that we have devoted significant resources to this enquiry to identify and apprehend those responsible.”

“The initial public response has been really positive and officers are currently progressing various lines of enquiry.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the attack, or has any information relating to it, to contact police.”
