Edinburgh’s Gold Award Entente Florale Europe 2014
There was a short photo call in the chamber today to celebrate the fact that Edinburgh council won the Gold Award in the European Competition for Towns and Villages in Bloom.
This was the first time the capital had been invited to represent the UK in the contest, which assesses entries based on landscape and horticulture, environment and tourism and public involvement.
The winners were announced at the end of September when Edinburgh won gold for excellence in landscape and horticulture, environment and tourism and involvement. The Grassmarket Community Project also brought home a prize in the form of the Lucija Cikes Prize for integration of disabled people into society through green skills.
The various bodies involved in Edinburgh’s entry range from the council to the Cockburn Association, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Friends of Parks groups.
