The Next Big Thing at the Fringe: a musical comedy for all ages

Authors sometimes say that their characters ‘take over’ – by which they mean that the story moves in directions they hadn’t anticipated when they began to write.  But what if a novelist’s creation really does start to have a life of her own?

The Next Big Thing explores the dangers of letting your imagination run away with you: when Liberty, author Helena’s outrageous heroine, literally steps off the page and comes alive everything is rosy for a while – but when things start to get out of hand, Helena finds out that success can be fabulously dangerous – what is she to do now?

Find out at theSpace on North Bridge (venue 36) next month, when DK Productions brings this new musical comedy to the Edinburgh Fringe. Starring Rebecca Ridout as Helena and Dereck Walker as Liberty, the show is directed by Susan Raasay, with Californian composer Graham Sobelmann as Musical Director.  Writer, composer and lyricist David Kent has had his work performed everywhere from Miami to Tring.  His hit musical The Uglies do Edinburgh was awarded 5 stars by the Scotsman at the 2011 Fringe (The Uglies are back this year too.) David is currently working as the lyricist on a song cycle for four voices, Love is Eternal, with Graham Sobelmann.

The Next Big Thing is suitable for all ages, so come along, bring the family, and enjoy a great hour of songs and comedy. The show will begin at 8.10pm on 1-2, 4-9, 11-16 and 18-23 August 2014. Tickets are £10/£8 and can be purchased from the Fringe website or at usual outlets.
