Snake abandoned in Livingston woodland

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a three foot long snake was dumped in woodland in Livingston.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Thursday (8 May) after a woman walking her dog at Kirkton Campus, near Fleming Road, discovered the orange corn snake next to a pillowcase.

The snake is now in the care of the Scottish SPCA’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where he has been named Fizzy.

Animal Rescue Officer Lauren Walker said, “We think it’s likely Fizzy was left inside the pillow case and slithered out as he was curled up under a tree stump when I arrived.

“Dumping him was very cruel as snakes need heat to survive and he would have soon perished had he not been rescued.

“Fizzy is in good condition so it seems he has been well cared for until now, however, we are keen to trace the person responsible for leaving him there as abandoning an animal is an offence.

“If anyone recognises Fizzy or knows of someone in the area who recently owned an orange corn snake we would urge them to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.

“We’ll continue to care for Fizzy until we can find him a suitable new home.”
