Man jailed for assault in Kirk Street house
A 20-year-old Edinburgh man has been sentenced to 4 years and 4 months in prison after pleading guilty to assault to danger of life at the High Court in Aberdeen today.
James Mullen, from Edinburgh, assaulted his partner and her ten-year-old daughter on the evening of 6th July 2013, at a property in Kirk Street, after he had been drinking all day.
Detective Inspector Morag Bruce from Police Scotland said: “James Mullen launched a sustained and violent assault on his partner, who was pregnant at the time.
“After attempting to strangle her, he then attacked her ten year old daughter, who tried to intervene. He also threatened neighbours when they came to assist.
We welcome this sentence as it sends out a clear message that domestic violence will not be tolerated by Police Scotland. We will rigorously investigate those perpetrators, and victims can also have confidence that their cases will be handled sensitively.”
