Jack McConnell brands Edinburgh Airport ground staff as ‘idiots’

Former First Minister Jack McConnell has branded Edinburgh Airport ground staff who delayed boarding of his flight as ‘idiots’ after being forced to wait on the runway for 20 minutes.

Lord McConnell told his 6,300 Twitter followers: “Pathetic shambles at Edinburgh Airport. Who is running this airport?”

He followed this up by tweeting “Sitting on Edinburgh Airport runway waiting 20 minutes plus because no-one can be bothered getting the steps. Is it April Fool’s Day? #idiots”

In response, a spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “We are aware of an issue this morning where four aircraft landed in very quick succession. Unfortunately this caused an operational delay with our handling agent Menzies Aviation who were unable to get steps to one the aircraft for roughly 20 minutes after landing.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this delay caused our passengers and are working with Menzies Aviation to prevent this happening again.”
