What are you doing to celebrate International Women’s Day?
I will be attending an International Women’s day event: Womankind Fundraiser at St Columba’s- by-the-Castle
What is your job?
Councillor for Inverleith and Convener of the Transport and Environment Committee on City of Edinburgh Council.
Would you give us a quick version of your career path?
Primary School Teacher: Councillor including Leader, Lord Provost and Convener of the Police Board but the most challenging and rewarding being a mother of three children!
If you had been given career advice on leaving school (knowing what you know now!) what would it have been?
Go for what you want to do and do not listen to anyone else!
Do you use any formal networking organisations? If you do which ones do you find useful?
Labour Party Women’s Forum
Do you think there are enough women in important positions in private and public organisations in Edinburgh?
No
Who is your inspirational female figure and why?
All women who have achieved change in their own way.
AND anything else you would like to add?
If we want to change private businesses and public elected bodies to achieve better representation of women we need positive action and quotas. Nothing else works!
