TRIM get a mention at Westminster

Edinburgh’s Liberal Democrat MP, Mike Crockart, has tabled and Early Day Motion in Parliament congratulating Tenants and Residents in Muirhouse (TRIM) on being named Tenants Group of the Year by the Tenant Participation Advisory Service Scotland (TPASS).

TRIM won the prestigious award for their determination and innovation in setting up the community shop in the Pennywell Shopping Centre. The shop offers local residents good value fruit, vegetables and daily groceries as well as acting as a community hub, providing a wealth of information to residents and bringing in organisations to offer advice clinics.

The awards were held at a ceremony at Fairfield St Andrews Hotel at the end of last year.

Commenting, Mr Crockart said:-“I am delighted that the hard work and commitment shown by the members of TRIM has been recognised on a national level by TPAS Scotland.

“I have been extremely impressed by how much TRIM has accomplished since it was set up in July 2012. It is testament to the grit and determination of its members that it has done so much for the local community in such a short amount of time.

“Since it opened in April 2013, the community shop has expanded from selling 6 items to over 70 and it is run by a dedicated team who volunteer on average 100 hours per week. It is this dedication and determination that has made the shop such a success.

“With TRIM achieving so much in such a short space of time, I am excited to see what the future holds for this dynamic group.”

Robert Pearson, Chairman of TRIM said:

“As the chairman of TRIM I speak for all involved when saying we are absolutely delighted. We were up against many fantastic groups, but to be chosen as overall winner is amazing.

“Starting a little over 12 months ago, we are still a relatively new group compared to others. TRIM is young, fresh and very active. We will continue to do what is best for our community. We will continue to be the voice for our community and we will continue to work with other groups and organisations to better our community.”
