Four men have been arrested and charged with housebreaking as part of Operation RAC.

Officers responded to reports of a break-in at the Queens Hall on Clerk Street at around 10.50pm on Saturday 28th December where numerous bottles of alcohol and event tickets had been stolen from inside.

Following local enquiries in the area, three males were traced at Boroughloch and found in possession of the stolen property.

The men aged 23, 29 and 31 were all subsequently charged and are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Monday).

In a separate investigation into a break-in at a residential property in Craiglockhart Park from June this year, police conducted a search of an address in Lochend area on Saturday morning.

A number of electrical items were seized from within the flat and are subject to further enquiry.

In addition, around £44,000 worth of diamorphine and £6,000 worth of cocaine was also recovered.

The 27-year-old was charged in connection with alleged housebreaking and drug offences and is also due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Detective Inspector John Kavanagh said: “These arrests demonstrate that whether we are investigating a crime that has just recently taken place or one that occurred several months ago, we will bring those responsible for housebreaking to justice.

“In both these instances, high-value property was recovered and has been, or will be, returned to its rightful owners in due course.

“Police Scotland is committed to tackling housebreaking and further enforcement activity as part of Operation RAC will continue to take place across Edinburgh.

“The public can assist police in tackling housebreaking by taking the necessary security measures to safeguard their homes and possessions. Crime prevention advice is available by speaking to your local policing team or visiting the Police Scotland website at www.scotland.police.uk.”
