Scotland Sings is a three day long project to get people out there singing.

There are a number of Scotland Sings events taking place inEdinburgh on 30 November and 1 December which will allow a number of different participants the chance to perform.

  • St Catharines’s Coffee Morning – St Catharine’s Convent of Mercy – 10:00am – 12:30pm – 30th November

This St Andrew’s Day come and support a local Homeless Project in Edinburgh by dropping in for coffee with entertainment from Mac4 female singing quartet!

  • Clark Choir Sings: Carols and Christmas Songs – Dobbies Garden Centre – 12:00pm – 4:00pm – 30th November

The Clark Community Intergenerational Choir will be singing at Dobbies Garden Centre – come along and hear Carols and Christmas Songs –old and new.

  • Treisurs O Sang: Discovering the Greig Duncan Collection – Scottish Storytelling Centre – 2:00pm – 5:00pm – 30th November

Frieda Morrison and Aileen Carr uncover the riches of Scotland’s greatest folk song collection, for the enjoyment of singers and folk enthusiasts alike. Sample the riches of balladry, lyric and bothy ballad, and learn from experienced performers how to tackle this wonderful material in your own way. Don’t miss tie-in concert, A Harvest of Songs: The Greig- Duncan Folk Song Collection at the Storytelling Centre on the same evening as part of the annual Scotland Sings Festival, organised by Hands Up for Trad.

Some of the most acclaimed singers in Scotland come together to perform songs and music from The Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection. Frieda Morrison, Aileen Carr, Steve Byrne, Lucy Pringle, Alison McMorland and Geordie McIntyre, plus special guest Fraser Fifield, share a treasure trove of songs associated with the North East of Scotland.

  • Gilmerton Christmas Fair with Christmas Songs and Carols – Gilmerton Community Centre – 2:00pm – 4:30pm – 30th November

Diana’s Divas and Gilmerton Singers (local choirs) are presenting a melody of Christmas and celebratory seasonal songs.

  • Gilmerton Christmas Lights Switch On – Gilmerton Community Centre – 4:30pm – 30thNovember

Diana’s Diva’s and Gilmerton Singers (local choirs) choirs will come together with the Randolfie Singers to perform a selection of Christmas carols following Christmas Fair produced by local arts charity Arts South Edinburgh.

  • Scotland Sings at Ocean Terminal – Ocean Terminal – 1:00pm – 1st December

InChorus performs for the first time in this popular shopping location as part of the ‘Scotland Sings’ weekend. InChorus was founded in September 2008 in Peebles. Local musician
Andrew Russel encouraged the community to form a modern choir singing contemporary music.

  • Edinburgh’s Christmas – Festival Singing – Various Locations – 12:00pm – 6:00pm – 1stDecember

Waverley Care have been invited to fundraise at the Christmas Markets in St Andrew’s Square and East Princes Street Gardens and what better way to do this than to have choirs serenading the crowds as they go about their Christmas shopping. They are still looking for more choirs to perform!

  • World Aids Day – St John’s Church, Princes St – 4:00pm – 1st December

Waverley Care will be holding a number of community gatherings across Scotland on the day. Each gathering will include speakers, music and refreshments. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.

We are encouraging everyone to go along to these fantastic events, with their friends, family or community.

Scotland Sings will take place in celebration of St Andrew’s Day, from the 29th November until 1st December, and is calling out for singers, karaoke fans and shower rock stars to sign up for this year’s festivities. It is one of many events that are part of the Event Scotland, Scotland’s Winter Festival.

Scotland Sings is the first ever initiative designed to encourage people to get out there and have a sing-a-long and the three-day festival will see a series of singing events spanning the width and breadth of Scotland, in locations including Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Balerno. People of all ages, backgrounds and vocal talent are being encouraged to get involved, with the aim of getting the whole of Scotland singing and having a great time in the process -whether that is as part of a community group, by yourself or in a band.
