EDINBURGH: NEW RESTAURANT – BISTRO MODERNE

Following the closure of the much lamented Café Fish, Mark Greenaway is to take over the former bank premises and set up his second city centre restaurant.

Award-winning chef Mark Greenaway today revealed his plans to open a second restaurant in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge.   Due to open in early December the new venture, called Bistro Moderne by Mark Greenaway, will be housed in the recently closed Café Fish on North West Circus Place.

The award-winning chef said:-“I’ve been looking for suitable opportunities for a second restaurant in Edinburgh for a while now.  The Bistro will offer simpler versions of my restaurant dishes as well as introducing some new styles of food from my repertoire, all served in a friendly and relaxed setting.”

Bistro Moderne will take the classic French bistro concept and revitalise it by adding imaginative dishes, a dessert bar and a 5-course grazing menu matched with whisky, beer and spirits to showcase drinks produced in Scotland.

Mark continued:-“I’ll be using the same fresh Scottish ingredients that I use at Restaurant Mark Greenaway, just treating them slightly differently.  And because Bistro will be open on a Sunday we’ll be serving amazing roasts of Aberdeen Angus beef and chicken.  I’m quite excited about that.  We’ll also have daily-changing blackboards for food and drinks and cocktails.  And I currently have a few surprises up my sleeve.  There’s a lot to look forward to.”

With 80 covers, the spacious restaurant will offer seating across two bars, two areas within the main room, and a further smaller area to the rear.  The Bistro will operate a no reservations policy for dining at the bar, although bookings can be made for table seating.

Restaurant Mark Greenaway is co-owned by Mark Greenaway and his fiancée Nicola Jack.  This partnership will continue at Bistro Moderne alongside new business partners Sue and Jeremy Hitchen.  The Hitchens operate Foodies Festivals which take place across the UK.

Jeremy Hitchen commented:-“I am delighted that Mark Greenaway will be adding to the buoyant restaurant scene with his new Bistro Moderne in Stockbridge, which promises a Scottish take on a French concept, at very affordable prices.”

The Georgian building is currently being renovated.

Bistro Moderne will be open 7 days a week serving lunch and dinner.  Breakfast will be served on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Earlier this month Mark launched the Mark Greenaway Award in association with independent brewer Innis & Gunn.  The award has been established to find Scotland’s best amateur pastry chef.

Mark will be appearing in a new BBC Two documentary Teen Canteen later this month.
