Canadian launches Kickstarter campaign to write book about Scottish Castles
Contributed Article
Greetings,
I am a Canadian immigrant to Scotland from the province of Nova Scotia who is passionate about the latter’s history. I am compiling research for a book on Scottish Castles, and so far I have visited 62 of them all throughout the country – everything from the Iron Age brochs of the Orkney Islands to the castles of the Golden Age such as Tantallon, Bothwell, Dunstaffnage and Dunnottar (which recently ranked as a runner-up to be the 8th Wonder of the World). This is a wholly independent project. I am 24 years old and a recent graduate of the University of Edinburgh, and I now work with the National Trust for Scotland as a Project Manager and am soon to begin training for the position of Battle Coordinator at the new Bannockburn Heritage Centre. I reach all the locations by a combination of train and bicycle, meaning I often cycle through 15+ miles of beautiful Scottish countryside to reach the castles. I have hundreds of high-quality images from these travels, and aim to use all of my own pictures for the book.
I have launched a Kickstarter ’crowdsourcing’ fundraising campaign to help me travel firsthand to each of the castles to be featured in the book, secure image rights from organisations such as Historic Scotland and RCAHMS, and deliver quality rewards to the backers of my project. Given the great deal of interest in all things Scottish in the lead-up to the Independence vote (not to mention the fact that Scottish historic sites experienced record visitations this past season), I thought that my project might be of interest to your readership. The project concludes on November 27th and is very much dependent on early momentum, meaning that the sooner more people back me the more likely it is to succeed.

So far the project has raised nearly £1,700 out of a goal of £8,030.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. My dream job is to be the next Neil Oliver! and I have many high quality pictures that I have taken on my travels
I look forward to hearing from you, and wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
David
