Drugs seizures in capital leads to more arrests
Police in Edinburgh have seized over £8000 worth of drugs and arrested a number of individuals in connection with drugs offences following two days of activity in the north of the Capital.
The largest seizure happened yesterday (Thursday), where officers carrying out a search of a property in Crewe Road North recovered amphetamine worth £3665, £1300 worth of cannabis resin, and £2000 in cash. A man and a woman, aged 23 and 46, were arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences.
On Wednesday, officers searching an address in Wardieburn Place West seized heroin with an estimated value of £1300, along with £1000 in cash. A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the seizure.
On the same day, officers searching a flat in Waterfront Park discovered cannabis cultivation with a potential value of £1650. On this occasion, three men, aged 42, 40, and 16, were arrested and charged.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Cunningham, from Police Scotland, said: “These seizures came about as a result of two days of intelligence-led activity aimed at those suspected of involvement of drug supply in the north of Edinburgh, and represent our on-going commitment to tackling serious and organised criminal activity in the city.
“Police Scotland is committed to keeping people safe, and this includes removing drugs from our local communities, where they cause so much harm. “We welcome any new information from the public regarding drug dealers or other serious organised criminals operating in local communities, and we will always act upon any intelligence we receive regarding individuals involved in this type of activity.”
