Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a theft in the West of the city.

The incident happened around 1.20pm yesterday Sunday 29th September in Drum Brae Avenue.

A male was seen to jump from the rear of a moving Scotmid delivery lorry and make off eastward in possession of two large bags.

After witnessing the suspect alight from the vehicle, a passing motorist alerted the lorry driver and it was established that around ÂŁ3,500 worth of cigarettes had been taken.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, with a slim build and wearing dark clothing, a woolly hat and gloves.

Chief Inspector Murray Dykes said:- “This is a brazen theft that has taken place in broad daylight and required the male responsible to escape from a moving vehicle.

“Anyone who was in the Drum Brae Avenue area on Sunday afternoon and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who can help police trace this male is also asked to get in touch.”
