Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in the nightclub C C Blooms on Leith Walk shortly after 3pm this afternoon.

The premises were evacuated and there were no casualties. Although they extinguished the flames, crews from Tollcross and McDonald Road fire stations remained on the scene to vent smoke from the building. It is believed that the fire started in a microwave oven in the club’s kitchen.

Over the weekend Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) teams tackled a fire at a Midlothian school.

Firefighters were called to Penicuik High School in response to 999 calls made shortly before 5.20pm on Saturday 10 August 2013.The fire, at the rear of the three-storey building, was quickly extinguished by crews from Sighthill, Liberton and Dalkeith fire stations. The fire did not affect any part of the building and Midlothian Council have confirmed that the school will open as normal for the start of the new session on Wednesday 21 August 2013.
