Five things you need to know today

Foster carers needed – Kiltwalk 2013 – Cairn Energy AGM – Jewellery event in Thistle Street – Leith Theatre Trust

The council have put out another call for foster carers:-

Over the year, the City of Edinburgh Council has recruited over 40 carers thanks to its successful Foster Me Foster Us campaigns. But this doesn’t mean we can stop there. With the number of children in foster care in Scotland at its highest since 1981, we need to recruit another 50 new carers by December 2013 to meet this urgent need.

Foster Care Fortnight will see us continue in our drive to recruit new carers. The faces of Caitlin and Scott will be reminding us that there are still lots more children who need loving homes. The campaign will use a variety of ways to attract new carers from across the city – buses, taxis, and huge bill boards.

This year Radio Forth will go on working with us as we sponsor Boogie in the Morning’s Breakfast show. DJ Grant Stott will be on hand to interview carers and their interviews will be on our Forth One webpage. One carer has been videoed and will appear on our Forth site during Foster Care Fortnight (13-26 May.)

All campaigns continue to centre on drop in events held at Waverley Court, the Council’s HQ. Foster care recruitment staff and carers are on hand to welcome prospective carers and answer their questions. Staff will also be present at this year’s Edinburgh MELA.

So if you or you know of someone who is interested in becoming a foster carer, get them to give us a call on 0800 174 833 or pop along to one of drop in events. Next one is Thursday 16 May at Waverley Court.  Details of these are on our website www.edinburgh.gov.uk/fostering

Remember we urgently need local people to care for Edinburgh’s children from birth to 18, whether it’s for a few days, months or the rest of their childhood. They need you too.

This Sunday is shaping up to be a busy day in the capital. Kiltwalk 2013 will be raising money for its six chosen charities when all walkers leave Murrayfield Stadium on a 26 mile walk at 9am.  The walkers will be following the route on the map shown here. There are also shorter walks which start a little later on. Also on Sunday Pedal on Parliament will be taking much the same route from The Meadows to Holyrood where they expect speeches at about 4:00pm.
