Suspicious Death in Leith
Police in Edinburgh are investigating a suspicious death that happened within a block of flats in Leith area of the Capital. Officers were called to a block of flats in Hawkhill Close around 8.15pm yesterday evening where they discovered the body of a man inside a sixth-floor property.
A cordon was put in place around the building to allow enquiries to take place at the scene, and these enquiries have continued throughout the day. Police are not currently in a position to release the identity of the victim, who is believed to be in his 30s.
Superintendent Matt Richards, from Lothian and Borders Police, said: “At this time we are at an early stage of our enquiries, however the man’s death is being treated as suspicious.
“Officers are carrying out forensic enquiries at the scene, and the building has been cordoned off to allow for this to happen. We are also carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the local area, as well as looking at CCTV footage.
Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the local area in the coming days in order to provide reassurance to local people, however there is not believed to be any risk to the public at large.
“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Hawkhill Close yesterday evening, who saw or heard anything suspicious, to contact police as a matter of urgency. Likewise, anyone else who has any information that can assist our enquiries should also come forward.”
Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
