Public exhibition this Saturday for proposed Morningside development
Improving housing choices for older people in Morningside
Local residents and community groups in Morningside have an opportunity to shape plans for a high quality Later Living development that will provide much needed specialised accommodation for people in later life.
A public exhibition is being held by leading retirement developer, McCarthy & Stone, to showcase its plans to redevelop the site of the former Western Saab Garage on Balcarres Street and Bruce Street into 40 one and two bedroom apartments, specifically designed for sale to people over the age of 60.
The site is currently vacant and has fallen into a state of disrepair following the closure of the garage. The proposed development will rejuvenate the site, helping to enhance the appearance of the surrounding area.
Artist impressions and architectural drawings will be available to view at a public exhibition held at St Peter’s Primary School on Saturday 6 October from 10.00am-2.00pm. Representatives from the project team will be available to discuss the plans and answer questions.
Steve Wiseman, Managing Director of McCarthy & Stone in Scotland, encourages local people to attend. He said “We believe our proposal will benefit the local community by bringing the site into residential use, increasing retirement accommodation options in the local area and will helping to support the local economy.”
“We’re really keen to hear from local people as community feedback is invaluable. It will help shape our final proposal before we submit a planning application to The City of Edinburgh Council later this year.”
