Edinburgh Fashion Show will display ‘upcycling’
‘Don’t Dump, Design’ charity fashion show
An exclusive charity fashion show hosted by TV nutritionist Amanda Hamilton will showcase the ‘upcycled’ outfits by 12 of Scotland’s up and coming design students with the winning design announced by guest judge and super model Anna Freemantle.
Held at the award winning Voodoo Rooms on Sunday 7 October 2012, the ‘Don’t Dump, Design’ event is being run by Mary’s Living & Giving Shop for Save the Children.
Edinburgh’s fashionistas will have the opportunity to buy the one-off designs when they are auctioned off on the night and will also be able to browse through items from independent boutiques and designers in a range of pop up shops including Fabhatrix, Dazed Dorothy and Mary’s Living and Giving. Exclusive donations from Scottish designers Lasvicious, Louise Ferdinand, Beautiful Bottoms and Dawntroversial will also be auctioned on the night.
In addition to the auction, guests will have the chance to buy designer products from Edinburgh boutiques such as Bill Baber, Kiss Me Deadly, Rebecca Anson, Walker Slater, Anta, Oddities and Catherine Aitken. There will also be raffle prizes to be won on the night.
Mary’s Living & Giving volunteer and event organiser, Esther Leong, said:
“The ‘Don’t Dump, Design’ night is going to be a really exciting night for anyone who loves fashion. In keeping with the shop’s concept of ‘don’t dump, donate’, the designs will highlight the importance of sustainability and an alternative to throwaway fashion by showing people the fantastic things that can be done with second hand clothes.”
All the money raised at the event will go towards helping save the lives of vulnerable children around the world.
The Living and Giving shop, launched by retail guru Mary Portas and the first of its kind in the UK, stocks top-end designer goods which are sold at bargain prices in aid of Save the Children.
