A flock of sheep in West Lothian have turned orange to celebrate MS Week 2012. They have been given the coat of animal-friendly paint by farmer Andrew Jack to help raise awareness of multiple sclerosis in Scotland.

The sheep have been turning the heads of commuters travelling between Edinburgh and Glasgow on the M8 motorway at the Pyramids Business Park.

The MS Society has launched a report highlighting that MS, and disability in general, is still very poorly understood by many Scots. The organisation is also using the week to showcase the ways in which people fight back against the condition.

Zoé Mobey, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at the MS Society in Scotland, said: “We hope the orange sheep will make people pause and wonder, what’s going on? This MS Week we are also asking them to stop and think about living with a condition like MS, the ways it affects everyday life and the challenges it brings. We also want them to know that people with MS fight back every day against their condition to live full and rewarding lives”.

Craig Chalmers, Senior Facilities Manager at Pyramids Business Park, said:

“We’re delighted to get involved for a great cause like MS Week. It’s amazing the reaction that the sheep get and hopefully they will help raise awareness of MS”.

People are urged to join the Fightback by donating at www.msfightback.org.uk.
