Five things you need to know today

Add your events to our n0tice Board – Splashback! is back – Castle FM – The Meadows Festival – Festival of Museums

We have a n0tice board where you can add your events. n0tice is a site developed by The Guardian and is the digital equivalent of the local notice board.  So as today is set to be a bit cold and rainy, why not add your events, or indeed any that you know about, to the board? You will find it here and it is amazingly easy to add your own fete, meeting, tea dance or charity event. As long as it is taking place in Edinburgh then it has a place on our board. Other details of how to stay in touch with us are on our About TER page here.

The Meadows Festival is still taking applications for stallholders to trade at the long-running event, this year to be held on the 2nd & 3rd June.

Interest has been high, but we still have spaces remaining. From arts and crafts, through vintage clothing and antiques, to books, charities, and children’s items, the Festival attracts a broad range of different traders.
If you’re interested in taking a stall, head over to the stalls page  and download a copy of the stalls form – apply by Monday 14th May to get a mention in the Festival Programme!

We’ve got an exciting line-up planned, but we need some help to make it happen – from you?
Head to the Volunteers page  if you can give a couple of hours over the weekend to make the Festival run smoothly – we are entirely volunteer run!

While the Meadows Festival is a free community festival, it costs over £20,000 to put on each year. If you could spare £5 to help us meet our budget please text MEAD12 £5 to 70070. Please share this with your networks and get them to join this group!

Next weekend 18-20 May Scotland’s museums and galleries hold an eclectic mix of inspirational cultural events from Aberdeen to Ayrshire and Dundee to Skye and Stirling, and this year there are almost 90 events confirmed.

Festival of Museums will celebrate Scotland’s wealth of culture with exciting and innovative day and night events in museums and galleries throughout the country. Many of the workshops, talks, concerts and exhibitions are FREE. The Festival, organised by Museums Galleries Scotland, coincides with other Europe-wide celebrations of the many eclectic cultural experiences offered to visitors by museums and galleries, including Museums at Night.

There are loads of events in Edinburgh, and you will get more details at www.festivalofmuseums.com

Here is one of the events taking place next Saturday:-

Description: A fascinating meeting of two distinct artforms, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy sublime operatic performance amongst world-class paintings. Puccini’s famous opera, set in Rome, has been cleverly re-written into a lively 20-minute version that will be performed, fittingly, in front of David Roberts’ magnificent panoramic painting of the Italian capital. Based on a form of Japanese storytelling, ‘A Little Bit of…Tosca’ unfolds to a series of colourful illustrations, brought to life by a storyteller, singer and two players. The performance will be followed by a related art-historical talk by Dr Patricia Andrew, focussing on Rome: Sunset from the Convent of Sant’ Onofrio on the Janiculum by David Roberts. There will be a second performance at 4pm in The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant, to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy ‘A Little Bit of… Tosca’ over a drink or a bite to eat.

Visitors are advised to book a table at The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant for the 4pm performance (0131 226 6524 for reservations).
