Council Elections 2012 – Meet the candidates – Marjorie Thomas

Marjorie Thomas is the LibDem candidate for Leith.

Councillor Marjorie Thomas was first elected to the City of Edinburgh Council in 2003 as the Councillor for the Leith Links Ward. She was re elected in 2007 for the multi member Leith Ward .

She is Convener of the Licensing Board,overseen many licensing initiatives dring the last five years including the Best Bar None initiative which has been piiloted in Leith and enourages licenced premises to improve their standards and gain recognition for their efforts. She is the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Culture and Sport and takes a keen inteerst in both aspects of this portfolio, being on the Board of the International Festival , and Edinburgh Leisure.

She also sits on the Planning Committee. Marjorie sees her main role as representing the people of Leith whether it be an individual problem or one of the bigger issues to have affected Leith over the last five years. She is a great believer in Community politics and works closely with Community Councils and local community groups. She is very supportive of the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership, doing things at a local level and allowing the community to have an influence. Marjorie is married to Ray , who is vey supportive of all her work and has two grown up sons and she is now also a very proud Granny.
