Council Elections 2012 – Meet the candidates – Karen Keil

Karen Keil is standing as Labour Party candidate for the Drumbrae/Gyle ward. She was born and raised in Edinburgh, and graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BD in 1982.

Keil worked for the Church of Scotland Counselling Service at Simpson House in Queen Street as an administrator and counsellor and then subsequently worked for development charity Christian Aid for nearly 20 years.

Karen is married to Church of Scotland minister Rev. Alistair Keil, parish minister in Clermiston since 1989.

She has been chairperson of the Clermiston and Drumbrae Gala for the past 14 years and is currently Vice Chair of both Drumbrae Community Council and the Munro Centre Management Committee.

Karen is mother to two teenage daughters, both educated at Drumbrae Primary School and Craigmount High School.

And she says the she is ‘sadly addicted’ to Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor.
