Just after the end of the holidays – but maybe a bit gory for the too young anyway, the Anatomical Museum is having an open day on the last Saturday of April, and in fact throws open its doors on the same day each month. You will find the Museum at University of Edinburgh, Doorway 3, Medical School, Teviot Place  EH8 9AG and you will also find more information on their Facebook page.

A free event at The Scottish National Portrait Gallery on 12 April 2012. Sax Ecosse will play for half an hour from 6 p.m. and the works performed will include sacred and secular transcriptions of works by Josquin Des Prez, William Byrd, Carlo Guesualdo, J.S Bach, alongside contemporary reflections from David Maslanka’s Recitation Book. Just turn up on the night, no need for a ticket.

Good Friday concert on Friday 6 April 2012 at St Peter’s on Lutton Place starts at 7.30 p.m. The St Peter’s Choir are performing Dubois’ Sacred Cantata ‘The Seven Last Words of Christ’. More information here.

Kevin Spacey stars in Margin Call which shows at The Filmhouse from 3 to 5 April 2012. Set in New York in 2008 with a bank that has a mortgage stock which is worth less than its book value, it could just as easily have been set in Edinburgh….

The Usher Hall has something for all you 50 year olds! The Osmonds are in concert there on 22 April 2012. They will no doubt be playing hits like ‘Crazy Horses’ and of course wee Jimmy has his own solo hit to fall back on ‘Long Haired Lover from Liverpool’. This is billed as their final tour, so get your tickets now.

The Edinburgh Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon takes place on 15 April 2012. There may still be time for you to get your running shoes on. And there is free entry to the after race concert. How can you resist?
