Now in its third year, the Traverse Theatre’s Autumn Festival is a celebration of the best work from the worlds of Dance, Visual Theatre, Contemporary Music, and Puppetry. This year, there is a strong focus on the most innovative new dance from around Scotland and the UK.

Over ten days, the Traverse will become home to a diverse range of artists and to audiences who want to immerse themselves in an exciting programme of live performance. The programme includes work from balletLorent, Company Chordelia, Cryptic, Dance Base, Traverse Theatre Company, Red Note Ensemble, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Plan B and Shona Reppe Puppets.

The festival opens with BalletLORENT’s immersive la nuit intime, which transforms the Traverse Bar into a hazy, atmospheric club. Ten dancers weave their way around the space, where audiences are free to move about the venue, go to the bar, chat to friends or just sit back and enjoy the spectacle (18 & 19 Nov).

Company Chordelia return to the Traverse following the success of Les Amoureux with Miranda, a highly visual fantasy told through dance, music and visual theatre (20 Nov). Cryptic bring their trademark use of film, movement and sound to explore themes of faith, hope, humanity and morality in Little Match Girl Passion – a double bill by David Laing, which combines Hans Christian Anderson’s heart-breaking tale with J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion. The evening will also feature Laing’s World to Come, performed by Southbank Centre cellist Oliver Coates, with haunting visuals by Irish video artist Jack Phelan (22 & 23 Nov).

Experimental dance platform Nowwhatnow? (photographed) from Dance Base features brand new work from Andy Howitt, Alan Greig, Steinvor Palsson and Matthew Hawkins (24 Nov). Phoenix Dance Theatre present Declarations, four diverse dance works by Warren Adams, Aletta Collins, Isira Makuloluwe and Philip Taylor (25 Nov).

Plan B bring the Traverse in to Dance Base with The Shoogle Project, featuring live music by Shooglenifty. The show is part gig, part ceilidh, bringing the audiences and performers closely together (26 & 27 Nov).

Following the success of last year, Traverse Theatre Company and Red Note Ensemble are delighted to be working together again on Noisy Words. This year, the event morphs into a two-day workshop where writers and composers will work together with actors and musicians ahead of a one-off performance that combines playwriting and contemporary classical music (27 Nov).

There is work for everyone over six years old by Shona Reppe Puppets with The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean. The show combines puppetry, film and visual theatre inspired by Victorian scrapbooks and parlour games on Saturday 26 November 2011.
