Edinburgh MSP welcomes move to help tenants
Edinburgh Central MSP, Marco Biagi, has welcomed the news from The Scottish Government that three proposals are being considered for the new Tenancy Deposit Protection Scheme which could help protect over 270,000 homes in Scotland including many thousands of students.
In response to a parliamentary question asked by Marco Biagi MSP, Cabinet Secretary Alex Neil revealed that three proposals had been received and once approved the Scottish Government would, “do everything possible to promote the scheme … ensure that the most vulnerable people are fully protected.” One of the proposals is from a consortium including the National Union of Students and housing charity, Shelter. Marco Biagi intends to meet with the group in the near future to discuss how to get the message out to student tenants.
Marco Biagi MSP said:- “I am glad to hear that progress is being made in introducing this much needed scheme which will help protect some of the most vulnerable people in our society. It is a fantastic example of the SNP Government acting on the concerns of those in the private rented sector and making a positive change to ally those concerns. It is vitally important when introducing this scheme that there will be substantial awareness promotion. I will be keen to see how the preferred scheme plans on doing this.”
