Five things to see at The Edinburgh Storytelling Festival
The Edinburgh International Storytelling festival begins on 21 October 2011. The Edinburgh Reporter has chosen our top five recommendations to help you decide what to go and see from the extensive programme.
5. Nothing But the….George Mackay Brown.
You won’t need any prior knowledge or even have read any of his material to enjoy this. Head along on Saturday morning and kick start your weekend with Orcadian poet Geogre Mackay Brown.
Saturday 22 October, Scottish Poetry Library, 11am-12.30pm, £5 Adults/£3 Concessions. Ages 14+
4. Tales from the Forest and the Sea.
Stories from the forest will be combined with tales from the sea in this special collaboration between the Botanics’ storytellers and harpist Heather Yule. A perfect opportunity to celebrate the 2011 International Year of Forests.

3. Liz Lochhead on Retelling Myth.
One of Scotland’s favourite daughters Liz Lochhead, looks at the idea of the proverbial ‘myth’ in a different light. Refreshments served!

2. Magic Carpet Storytelling Festival Special
The National Museum of Scotland’s magic carpet stops off for its weekly visit. Allie Finaly has a whole host of tales and treats for pre-school children!

1. Hosting The Spirits
Bring an end to the storytelling festival with haunting tales of Halloween! Storytellers and musicians from Scotland, Ireland and the Mediterranean delve into the worlds of myth and magic on the night where the divide between the worlds is closer than ever.
Sunday 30th October, The Hub, 7.30-9.30pm, £10 Adults/£8 Concessions, Adults Only.
