Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition opens 30 April

The RSA Annual Exhibition is a highlight of the exhibiting year and features RSA Academicians and selected submissions from leading and emerging artists from across Scotland, as well as a number of specially invited artists and architects. This year’s exhibition convenor is Victoria Crowe RSA. The theme of this year’s show is Transformation – Documenting the Artists’ Practise from Inspiration to Creation.

Focussing on the importance of preparatory work, the exhibition will include sketches, work books and preliminary drawings amongst other material, to document the transformative journey from initial idea through to realised work. The exhibition will provide an insight into the creative development of an artist’s work, and will be an educative and involving experience.

The invited artists are:

Geri Loup Nolan, RSA Barns-Graham Travel Award winner and Jean Duncan, winner of the RSA William Littlejohn Watercolour Award will also exhibit new work.

There will also be gallery tours, artist talks, meet the artists evenings and associated events to encourage the public to get involved and learn more about the art/artists in the show. This range of activities will be hosted by the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy.

The exhibition will be spread across all 12 RSA Galleries and will include painting, sculpture, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation and will be accompanied by a full colour publication.

Good news is that most of the works are available for purchase. Better news is that the RSA is part of the Own Art scheme, offering interest-free credit for people to buy contemporary art and craft! For further details visit www.ownart.org.uk
