Library App

Find the nearest Edinburgh City Library wherever you are in the city with the free Your Library app available from today.

The first of its kind for a Scottish public library, the Your Edinburgh app was unveiled this morning as part of the Edge 2011 conference being hosted by The City of Edinburgh Council.

The app is available free for Android now and will soon be available for iPhone, Blackberry and Windows devices.

Your Library has up to date information about library events, activities, and service updates that are usually only available on the library website. The Your Library app will also include Bus Tracker, First Bus timetable information, and additional content from Edinburgh City Libraries.

The software is being developed so that in a few months’ time, people will be able to use it to search the library database and order books.

Councillor Deidre Brock, Culture and Leisure Convener, said: “Edinburgh Libraries are leading the way by introducing the first libraries app in Scotland. This extremely useful tool will help people keep up to date with the many exciting events happening in libraries across the city. We are continuing to develop the software so that soon people will also be able to reserve books using the app – this is bound to be a very popular added feature.”

The Your Library App is a new way for citizens and visitors to find out about theĀ  information and services available from Edinburgh City Libraries no matter where they are.

The development of this app by Library Services and the Scottish company SOLUS makes the best use of technology for all customers by taking existing information and repackaging it for mobile devices. Your Library App will be developing to include features which allow customers to send comments and images from their phone direct to the Library Service.
