As International Women’s Day celebrates its 100th birthday, a popular exhibition charting the struggle to win the vote for women is entering its final weeks at the Museum of Edinburgh in the Canongate.

Councillor Deidre Brock, Edinburgh’s Culture and Leisure Convener, said the important global anniversary was the perfect occasion to discover firsthand accounts of the campaign for universal suffrage fought in Scotland’s capital and beyond in the early part of the 20th century.

She said: “All over the world today, people’s thoughts will be turning to the ongoing battle to achieve equal rights as International Women’s Day marks its centenary. The Museum of Edinburgh is currently displaying a fascinating multimedia exhibition entitled Votes for Women, which incorporates photographs, original artefacts and eye-witness accounts. The exhibition is free and runs until 31 March – don’t miss out!”

The Museum of Edinburgh is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Free admission.
