Guerrilla lighting at The Causey

The Causey Development Trust organised a pop-up lighting event last night. The promise was that there would be around 50 people each armed with 5 million candle power torches illuminating a couple of the historic buildings around The Causey.

There were probably fewer people than had been expected and of course the freezing rain was not the best weather for something like this. The Trust had paid the City Council to have the lighting turned off whilst the buildings were lit up, but the traffic continued to flow and the ambient light in Edinburgh is such that it would be difficult to attain the true darkness that would be needed.

The aim of the group was to draw attention to the lovely buildings around The Causey which  they would like to see as a focal point for community events but which instead has developed into a traffic island.

The idea was good, and we spoke to Isobel Leckie from The Trust to find out more.
