Some interesting decisions made by the council’s planning department last week 7th February, including one to allow The Royal Blind to develop their site at Craigmillar Park as follows:- “Phase one works – Demolition of single storey primary school and adjacent link building to main school, erection of new 3/4 storey residential block to west of main school and associated landscaping, erection of new external lift tower on gable end of main school building” Sounds very exciting – until you realise that this is a development which will not be happening any time soon. The Royal Blind said:-“On 10 November the Royal Blind Board of Trustees made the very difficult decision to postpone the development of a new residential building at the Craigmillar Park Campus of The Royal Blind School. The decision was taken in the light of the current economic climate and with the Scottish Government’s Doran review of provision for children with complex needs due to report in 18 months’ time.

Richard Hellewell, Chief Executive of Royal Blind said: “I would like to thank all our supporters who have donated to this project. These funds have enabled us to complete the planning and design work for the new residential building so that it is ready to proceed when the time and circumstances are right.
“We initiated the building project before the economic recession and it remains difficult to forecast all its effects. Until the financial climate changes and we know the outcome of the Scottish Government Review and the impact it will have on our services, we are postponing the project. In the mean time we are looking at making some shorter term improvements within our existing buildings.”

You may not be aware that the company behind Edinburgh Trams, Tie, have their own TV Channel. (well it is called tram.tv…..) They have used it several times now to showcase big leaps forward in the development of the latest transport system in the capital, and this month they have made a film to allow the CEO, Richard Jeffrey, an opportunity to counter the criticism of the management in the recent Audit Scotland report. Except that so far there have been only 11 views of it on Youtube.

So here it is here just in case you have missed it!
