A special benefit concert featuring a number of musical legends is planned at The Jam House to help build a new St Columba’s Hospice. The ‘Edinburgh Bands Together’ event on Sunday 6 March will see performances from well known musicians including The Gospel Truth Choir, who recently supported Tom Jones, Davie Paton of The Alan Parsons Project and Pilot, and Nobby Clark, who was an original member of the Bay City Rollers.

There will also be performances from top blues, funk, soul and jazz musicians, including Liz MacEwan, who is organising the event for the Hospice.

Liz MacEwan said: “After the success of the last fundraiser, which was for Mercy Corps in Haiti, Nobby Clark and I decided to put on another show, and because My Mum and some other family members of the Musicians involved had spent their last few weeks at the Hospice, with the best care in the world, we wanted St. Columba’s new Hospice to benefit from the monies raised on the 6th March at the Jam House.

“The venue is being donated free of charge as are all the bar staff, Tickets Scotland are dispensing with a booking fee for any cash purchases, Standard Life are kindly printing thousands of fliers and posters and raffle prizes are coming in fast. It is shaping up to be the best gig in town.”

All profits from the concert will go towards the project to build a new St Columba’s Hospice. St Columba’s will soon be undertaking a complete redevelopment, transforming it into a state-of-the-art palliative care facility. The new St Columba’s Hospice will care for more than 40,000 patients over the next 40 years, and is due for completion in 2014.

Martin Lawlor, Campaign Fundraising Manager for the St Columba’s Hospice rebuild project said: “It’s great to see so many musicians coming together for St Columba’s Hospice and we’re delighted that Liz has put this event together for our rebuild project. It’s set to be a fantastic night out and a fun way to raise funds for your local Hospice.”

Doors open at 6.30pm and the event starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 for a balcony seat with service, £15 for a seat at a table or £10 for standing. Tickets are available from Ticket Scotland at 127 Rose Street, by phone on 08444 155 221 or online at www.tickets-scotland.com
