Cameo is showing The Social Network

The film about Facebook is actually less about Facebook, and more about its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and his shortcomings as a friend. You cannot live in the 21st century and not know something about Facebook. What is perhaps less well known is the litigious background on which it started.

A $65m out of court settlement to the awesomely handsome and already outrageously wealthy Winklevoss twins was a mere drop in the ocean by the time it was paid. Justin Timberlake is a surprisingly believable Sean Parker, the founder of Napster and Jesse Eisenberg is a very likeable and acceptably geeky Zuckenberg. Harvard cannot really be too pleased about the way it portrays its institution, nor can White House adviser to the Treasury and former Harvard Dean, Larry Summers, be too happy.

Rotten Tomatoes already gives this film blockbuster ratings of 97%, and we think you should go and see it too. Even if you don’t actually use Facebook (we do – we have our own page….) it will be an entertaining two hours.

The Cameo is a bit of a war zone at the moment as they are remodelling. Rather quaintly, the sweeties and popcorn are being sold from a table in the foyer by a girl with a calculator, until the new refreshment area is formed. But that apart it is still a nice place to go.

Showing at The Cameo at 13.00, 15.40,18.20 and 21.00. Booking here.
