New Trophy!
The totesport Edinburgh Cup, which is run for the first time on Saturday (June 5) will net the winner £50,000 and a unique commemorative trophy.
Glass artist Craig Colquhoun has carved out a reputation for the eye-catching quality of his work with other major pieces, including a replica of the Dubai Meydan racetrack which is now a permanent exhibit in the Royal Enclosure at the UAE course and the Kentucky Derby racetrack at Churchill Downs.
The Edinburgh Cup will incorporate a 15” crystal cup, enhanced with two sculpted horses running up the side of the cup and an etching of Edinburgh Castle.
Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, Bill Farnsworth, said: “This race day is the richest in Musselburgh’s history and it was appropriate that we marked the launch of the Edinburgh Cup with a trophy which matches our ambitions to build this this in to a £100,000 race.
“Craig’s work is truly unique and we are sure that he will deliver something special which any winner would be proud to accept.”
Craig Colquhoun, who trades under The House of C brand, added: “I am delighted to be working with one of Scotland’s leading racecourses and can promise Musselburgh and the first winner of the Edinburgh Cup won’t be disappointed.”
The Edinburgh Cup meeting on Saturday (June 5 2010) has attracted entries from some of the UK’s leading stables and with a total £200,000 in prize money on offer a large weekend gate is expected.
